Onyx stones are made of layered bands of light-colored or translucent materials. Most onyx slabs are referred to as “banded calcite” by geologists. Onyx countertops are exotic and unique and are used as incredible displays for bars, walls, and backsplash. However, onyx countertops require heavy maintenance with resealing and polishing in order to avoid chemicals eating away at the surface of the stone.
